WATERTOWN — The travel advisory in Jefferson County has been lifted, but due to the impending snowstorm it’s unclear how long that will last.
A lake-effect snow warning is in effect for Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis counties, which includes the cities of Oswego and Watertown and the village of Lowville, until 7 p.m. Thursday. A lake-effect snow warning is also in effect for southeastern St. Lawrence County until 1 a.m. Thursday.
Snow totals in the Watertown area could reach 18 to 24 inches, the National Weather Service in Buffalo forecasts.
The most snow is expected to fall in the Tug Hill area, according to the Weather Service.
The snow band is expected to be in the southern Tug Hill and northern Oswego County first before drifting north into the Watertown area into Wednesday. The band is expected to then shift back south of Watertown by Thursday.
Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, which could cause blowing and drifting snow.
“If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities,” the warning states.
